Two more children died today.
One was just a minute old.

The other in the bedroom
in the closet
on the floor
beside the shoes
on the dirty laundry
hoping
mom didn’t come home, no
one would hear, it would
go fast, the mess
would be small, the pain
not too strong.
She breathed like she saw
on t.v. and it hurt oh it
hurt so bad.
before it could cry
she wrapped it up quick
in the laundry, smothered it quiet
and dropped it
in the garbage bin
on her way
to school.
Two more children died today.
One was 13.
